This often\nsudden, raging pain can make going about your daily life almost impossible.\nEating, speaking, and even smiling can result in a jolt of pain shooting\nthrough your mouth. If you have a serious toothache like this, your first order\nof business should be to contact your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.parkerdentalandortho.com\/emergency-dentistry.html\">dentist<\/a>\nfor treatment. In the meantime, here are six home remedies you can use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Saltwater Rinse <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Saltwater is a great line of defense against stubborn tooth\npain. Mix half a teaspoon of salt into a glass of warm water and use it as a\nmouthwash. This can loosen food particles that may be stuck in between your\nteeth and causing your discomfort. Saltwater can also help reduce inflammation\nand even heal minor oral wounds. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">2. Hydrogen Peroxide Rinse <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hydrogen peroxide might help reduce pain as well as\ninflammation. Besides killing bacteria, hydrogen peroxide can heal bleeding\ngums and reduce the amount of harmful plaque in your mouth. Mix 3 percent\nhydrogen peroxide with equal parts water to dilute it and rinse your mouth out\nwith it. Be careful not to swallow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">3. Cold Compress <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you hold a cold compress to the outside of your mouth,\nit constricts the blood vessels in the area, which significantly lessens pain. The\ncold can also reduce inflammation and swelling. Hold a bag of ice wrapped in a\ntowel to your face for 20 minutes at a time. You can repeat this approach every\nfew hours. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4. Garlic <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Garlic has been recognized for its medicinal properties for\nthousands of years. It can kill harmful bacteria in plaque as well as act as a\npain reliever. If you have a clove of garlic on hand, crush it to form a paste\nand apply it to the hurting area. Alternatively, you could slowly chew a clove\nof garlic, if you can stand the taste. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">5. Vanilla Extract <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This compound contains alcohol, which may help to numb the\npain. Dab a small amount onto your clean finger or a cotton swab and apply it\ndirectly to the affected area a few times a day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">6. Over-the-Counter Pain Relievers <\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ibuprofen in particular is quite effective at remedying oral\npain. Take your pick of store-bought painkillers and take them as directed on\nthe bottle. Just be sure to <em>not <\/em>apply aspirin directly to the area, as\nit could irritate the gum tissue and ultimately worsen your pain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a toothache that doesn\u2019t subside with any of these\nhome remedies, you should contact your dentist right away.
